Gary Downey on global engineering competencies

In this episode, we talk with Dr. Gary Downey, former chair of the Science Technology and Society program at Virginia Tech and a past President of the Society for the Social Studies of Science. Today we will hear about his formative contributions to conceptualizing global engineering competency, using ethnographic research methods from cultural anthropology, and about the  long-running course, Engineering Cultures, that Gary developed at Virginia Tech years ago. Dr. Downey is an Alumni Distinguished Professor, the author and editor of many books including What is Global Engineering For? He is also a recipient of the Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award, the highest faculty award in the Commonwealth.
