Member Profile:

Margaret (Maggie) Webb is an M.S. and Ph.D. student in Sustainable Land Development (Civil Engineering) and Engineering Education, respectively, at Virginia Tech, where she is also a researcher in the Disaster Resilience and Risk Management (DRRM) Interdisciplinary Graduate Program.

Webb is originally from New Orleans, LA, and her research interests in global engineering education originate from her displacement from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She centers on the ways in which disaster resilience, social justice, and engineering education intersect, particularly in terms of the impacts of displacement and forced relocation on engineering, what it means to be a disaster-resilient education system, and the importance of convergent, interdisciplinary approaches for engineers addressing disaster resilience in their work. Her work in The Academy for Global Engineering allows her to contribute to the College of Engineering at VT's students' global competency and program development, while simultaneously developing her own globally-focused interdisciplinary research and teamwork skills.
