Member profile:

I am an international educator and strong advocate for experiential learning, especially global experiences for students. I currently serve as Global Engagement Faculty Fellow in the College of Engineering and will be implementing several new global experiential learning initiatives for students, supporting international partnerships, and coordinating new strategies for global initiatives. During my 19+ years of service at Virginia Tech in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, I have created or supported a range of international programs (abbreviated list):

  • Summer and winter session study abroad to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • China undergraduate research discovery trips
  • CEE in Panama Program (with Engineers Without Borders)
  • Engineering in a Developing Context embedded course, Guatemala
  • NSF IRES on coastal engineering with University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
  • Past co-instructor for the course "Global Topic in Civil Engineering (China and the US)"
  • Co-developer of CEE's new semester-long program at the Steger Center in Switzerland

In addition to program development, I am well versed in creating Memoranda of Understanding and Student Exchange Agreements for international collaborations in higher education. I am an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Association of International Education Administrators. My current research focuses on faculty perspectives and motivations for engaging in university comprehensive internationalization efforts.
