I have worked at IBM and Microsoft in various software engineering roles, and traveled to India and China to provide training to colleagues. I have seen first-hand the many ways in which technical engineering practices are affected, for better or for worse, by cultural differences. I therefore see global engineering research and opportunities as critical for improving the experience and effectiveness of engineering students as they enter the workforce. I try my best to help students discover these topics when I teach Computer Science courses at VT, and have also been an RSAP trip leader and part of the RSAP research team.
