My passion for broadening participation in global educational opportunities is inspired by my previous global engineering experiences, which remain some of the most transformative experiences of my educational journey. Recognizing the transformative power of global education, while at Virginia Tech I strove to connect research and practice by collaborating on initiatives with Virginia Tech Rising Sophomore Abroad Program, the Center for International Research, Education, and Development, and the Mechanical Engineering Capstone Program. In each of these collaborations, my research and practice emphasized creating equitable and inclusive pathways to global engineering opportunities, particularly for underrepresented and underserved students. In addition, my engagement focuses on partnering with communities using community-based participatory approaches to design, pedagogy, and research.
